Ioannis Pragidis

Professor, Department of Economics, Democritus University of Thrace

Ioannis Pragidis is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the Democritus University of Thrace and the founder and director of the spin-off company EconSyS. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Macedonia in 2001, his Master’s degree from the University of Warwick in 2003, and his PhD from the Democritus University of Thrace in 2009.

His main research interests focus on fiscal policy analysis and the development of innovative analytical tools. These include methods such as textual analysis for measuring economic uncertainty, as well as the design and implementation of experiments to identify causal effects in consumer decision-making and the impact of economic policy.

Professor Pragidis regularly receives Horizon funding for the development of new tools to support economic policy. His research has been published in leading academic journals, including Journal of Financial Stability, International Journal of Financial Economics, and International Review of Financial Analysis.

Dionysios Chionis

Professor, Department of Economics, Democritus University of Thrace

Dionysios Chionis is a Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at the Democritus University of Thrace. He is a member of the Board of Directors of SEVE (Greek Exporters Association) and a member of the Supreme Evaluation Council of the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE).

He completed his undergraduate studies in Economics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and later pursued postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom, obtaining an MSc in International Banking and Finance from the University of Edinburgh, an MSc in Economics from the University of Glasgow, and a PhD in Economics from the University of Strathclyde.

Professor Chionis has collaborated with the European Commission as a national expert and has also worked with the Prime Minister’s Economic Office. In addition, he has served as CEO or Chairman of public enterprises and organizations in the public sector.

His recent research focuses on economic and monetary crises, international economics, debt restructuring, and bond markets. His work has been published in academic journals such as Journal of Policy Modeling, International Review of Applied Economics, Finance Research Letters, Journal of Financial Stability, and International Journal of Finance and Economics. He has also presented numerous papers at international academic conferences.

In addition to his academic research, he has edited collective volumes and regularly publishes opinion articles in both the Greek and international press.
